STORY: Russian folk dance and music trio "Barynya" was founded in November 1991 by Russian accordion player Mikhail Smirnov, dancer Sasha Anchutin, and Russian folk singer Natalia Demidova. The first show took place at the Russian restaurant "Fyodoroff" in Carle Place, New York. Program of the Barynya show always started with fast Russian traditional dance "BARYNYA" which later has become the name of the group. In 2002 balalaika virtuoso Alex Siniavski has joined Barynya as musical director, in 2003 Russian dancers Olga Chpitalnaia and Vitaly Verterich started to perform with ensemble Barynya.
PROGRAM: Russian, Gypsy, Cossack, Ukrainian and Klezmer traditional dances, folk and popular songs, virtuoso performances on musical instruments with explanation of the program in English.
INSTRUMENTS: balalaika, garmoshka, contrabass-balalaika, buben, Gypsy and classic guitars. COSTUMES: Colorful Russian, Gypsy, Cossack, Ukrainian and Klezmer stage outfits: "sarafans", "rubashkas", "sapogis", and "kosovorotkas". Each dance number performed in appropriate and authentic costumes, all hand-made by Svetlana Gavrilova. MEMBERS: Six dancers, three musicians and one singer of the ensemble Barynya use to perform with world reknown Moiseev Dance Company, Virsky Ukrainian National Dance Company, Don Cossacks of Rostov Don, Andreev State symphonic balalaika orchestra, Moscow State Folk Center "Russian Song", Ensemble of Black Sea Navy Dancers, Riverdance, Beryozka Dance (Moscow) and others. "Barynya" is available for hire as one powerful ensemble or in smaller groups to fit in any budget.
