Bankya is a small picturesque town 17 km west of Sofia – the capital of Bulgaria. Situated at the foot of Lulin mountain, there is a lot of greenery and sunny days, temperate climate, light mountain breeze and healthy mineral sources, all of which are important for the development of Bankya. In other words, it is like a prestige national and international resort, and similar to an ecological reserve of Sofia. The resort is a National centre for the rehabilitation of heart case patients. The cozy hotels and restaurants, cultural monuments, temples, tennis court complex, mineral pool and closeness of Lulin mountain, and the numerous cultural activities during the traditional summer holidays, will satisfy the requirements of the most exacting guests. In 1969 Bankya was a town and in 1979 it became like a suburb of Sofia. Participants in Balkanfolk 2007 workshop will be accommodated at Jeravna hotel – Bankya, which is close to the centre of town, “Aqua world” pool and the lovely park. The rooms are with 2 and 3 beds, separate bath and toilet. Lessons of the workshop will held in the hotel’s halls. The dancing hall is spacious with air-conditioning and a wooden floor. The restaurant of the hotel offers a traditional Bulgarian kitchen and nice conditions for folklore evenings with the orchestra and singers of Balkanfolk.
